A considered store, chapter by chapter.
Pleat Chapter presents clothing through wardrobe edits, garment details and clear shopping tools. This guide explains the theme controls and the Shopify store data they use.
Get started
- In Shopify, open Online Store → Themes and add your Pleat Chapter theme ZIP.
- Keep your current published theme while you configure the new theme in the library. Duplicate a theme before editing its code.
- Add your products, variants, images, collections, navigation and store policies in Shopify.
- Open Edit theme. Choose a template from the page selector and configure its sections.
- Preview desktop and mobile layouts. Test variant selection, search, cart changes and checkout using your store’s test payment configuration.
- Publish the theme when your content and store configuration are ready.
A theme installation includes layouts and usage guidance. Your own catalog, photography, menus, articles and policies are store data. The demonstration store’s content is not imported with the theme.
Use the theme editor
Sections form a page. Blocks form the content within a section. Add, remove and reorder supported sections and blocks in the editor sidebar. Select an item in the preview to reveal its settings.
Changes to a template affect every resource assigned to that template. To give one group of products or pages a different arrangement, create another template and assign it to those resources in Shopify admin.
Use dynamic sources where Shopify offers the connection icon. App blocks can be added to the main product and Featured product sections. The Custom Liquid section and block provide additional insertion points for code supplied by your app developer.
Design settings
- Logo and favicon: upload a logo and set desktop and mobile widths. The store name appears when no logo is selected.
- Typography: select heading and body fonts from Shopify’s font library. Heading scale changes visual size independently from heading level.
- Color schemes: configure paired background, text, surface and button colors. Apply a scheme to each section. Recheck contrast after changing colors.
- Layout: adjust page width and section spacing. Compact spacing suits smaller editorial catalogs.
- Product cards: choose image ratio and fit, secondary images, vendor, price badges, swatches and quick shop.
- Cart type: choose a drawer or a separate cart page.
Image pickers use Shopify’s focal point. Choose portrait photography for garment and outfit images, and inspect the result on a narrow screen before publishing.
Navigation and footer
Create your main menu in Shopify, then select it in the Header section. Nested menu items support up to three levels. Link to actual products, collections, pages and blog posts so the same menu works across languages.
The announcement bar supports multiple messages. Each message can include its own link. The footer accepts brand text, menus, newsletter content and store preferences. Social icons appear for configured social URLs. Payment icons reflect the payment methods enabled in your store.
Build the home page
| Section | Configure |
|---|---|
| Editorial cover | Choose photography, chapter label, heading, introduction and links. Keep the first heading descriptive. |
| Collection list | Select collections in blocks. Choose titles and layout. A collection without an image can use its first product image. |
| Wardrobe edit | Pair an outfit image with explicitly selected products. “Pictured” describes the photograph and does not preselect the customer’s variant. |
| Featured collection | Select a collection, product limit and column count. You can select individual products instead of the collection’s order. Decide whether to show quick shop and a View all link. |
| Image with text | Compose headings, text, buttons and garment facts beside an image. Choose image placement, ratio and content alignment. |
| Featured blog | Select a blog and article count. Author, date and image settings use the current article data. |
| Newsletter | Explain what customers will receive and how often. Signup uses Shopify’s customer form and consent handling. |
| Slideshow and video | Add slides and choose playback controls. Videos can use Shopify-hosted video, YouTube or Vimeo. |
Configure products
Use Shopify product options for sizes, colors and other choices. Prices, compare-at prices, availability, images and inventory come from Shopify. Missing combinations and existing sold-out variants display different states.
The product template’s blocks control the title, price, vendor, options, garment facts, description, inventory, SKU, quantity, purchase buttons, sharing and optional recommendations. Remove optional blocks you do not need. You can connect garment facts to product metafields or configure separate templates.
Upload images, hosted videos, external videos and 3D models to each product in Shopify. The theme includes gallery controls and media viewing. AR availability depends on the customer’s device and Shopify’s model support.
Swatches
Shopify’s native option swatch is used when present. Under the swatch settings, you can also map option names to hexadecimal colors, one per line: Ivory:#E7E2D6. Use six-digit hexadecimal values. Text remains the fallback for an unmapped option. Choose which product option appears on cards.
Conditional Shopify features
Pickup availability requires locations, pickup settings and variant stock in Shopify. Subscriptions require selling plans provided by your store’s subscription integration. Gift card recipient fields appear for gift card products when enabled. Unit prices, Shop Pay Installments, accelerated checkout and account options appear when the corresponding Shopify data and eligibility are available.
The theme does not install apps or activate payment methods. Manage app permissions and payment eligibility in Shopify.
Add size guides
- Create a Shopify page containing a clear garment measurement table. Include a caption with the base unit, for example “Garment measurements / cm”.
- Set a guide page directly in the product option block, or create a product metafield with namespace and key
custom.size_guide, type Page reference, and select a page for each product. - You can also set a global fallback guide in theme settings.
The selection order is: the block’s guide page, the product’s custom.size_guide page, then the global guide. To use different per-product guides through the metafield, leave the block override empty.
For numeric centimeter and inch tables, the guide offers unit conversion rounded to one decimal place. Size labels stay unchanged. For fractions or mixed size and measurement text, supply both units yourself; the theme preserves the original table and explains when automatic conversion is unavailable. Compare measurements with a garment you own and describe whether the numbers measure the garment or the wearer.
Collections, filters and search
Select a collection and configure its template in the editor. Collection tabs come from the selected menu; they navigate to the linked collections. Sorting uses Shopify’s collection sort options.
Filters use Shopify’s native storefront filtering. Configure the filter sources and labels in Shopify Search & Discovery if you use that management app. Merchants install and approve it separately; installing the theme does not install the app. No app-specific storefront component is embedded in Pleat Chapter.
If no filters are configured, products, sorting, search and cart still work. The theme shows only the native filter data available for the current collection or query. Color and size names must match the product options in your catalog. Counts can change when filters are combined.
In drawer mode, changes are drafts until the customer chooses the result button. Closing cancels the draft. The price range cannot be applied with a minimum greater than the maximum. An empty result includes a way to clear filters.
Predictive search can show products, collections, queries, articles and pages. Full search results and pagination use Shopify search. Catalog content, publishing status and Shopify search settings determine what is returned.
The search results page offers native result-type links and a Clear search button while text is present. Clearing returns focus to the field and cancels pending suggestions; press Enter to submit a new search. The standard search form remains available without JavaScript.
In the header search panel, use the arrow keys to select suggestions and Enter to open a result. Escape first dismisses visible suggestions, then closes the panel and returns focus to its opener. Tab stays inside the panel while it is open. The Close search button closes the panel directly.
Pages, edits and Journal
Create ordinary pages in Shopify and assign a template. The default page displays its full title and rich text. The About template provides an image beside the page content, optional breadcrumbs and editable disclosure blocks. Page sections also offer a wide introduction layout, optional vertical centering beside an image and a separate breadcrumb label. Select its image in the theme editor; edit the title and body in the page’s Shopify admin screen.
For an image beside content, choose Show text before image on mobile when the introduction should come first on a small screen. The image stays on the left on desktop. Set a Parent page and an optional Parent breadcrumb label to link an edit back to its index.
Use the Edits template for an index of linked editorial pages. Cards can use a staggered layout. Use an Edit template for outfit photography, selected product rows, styling notes and additional product selections. An Explore the pieces button can lead to the next product list, with a regular collection link as its fallback. Each page uses its own assigned template configuration; create another template for a different arrangement.
The collection directory can use collection or editorial-page cards. Collection product counts come from Shopify; an editorial page’s optional chapter count is entered manually and must be kept up to date.
Create articles within a Shopify blog and choose that blog for Journal sections. Titles, authors, dates, excerpts, featured images and body content come from the articles. Comment visibility and moderation follow the blog’s Shopify settings.
The blog page’s editorial layout gives the first article a larger image. Shopify orders articles by publication date. To curate the topic links, create a menu whose items point to the blog’s tag pages and select it as Topic menu. Leave this setting blank to show all available tags. The theme always includes a link that clears the current topic filter.
The Contact template uses Shopify’s contact form. Choose an order number field, a phone field or no additional field, and write your own privacy note. The store’s email configuration controls delivery. Write your own delivery, returns and privacy policies and connect their links in your navigation.
Password page
Select Password in the theme editor’s page selector. Configure the image, eyebrow, multiline heading, email signup text and button label. The image appears beside the content on desktop and above it on mobile. Turn off Show email signup to hide the signup form.
Manage the actual store password and password message under Online Store → Preferences. The theme does not change them. The password entry uses a native disclosure and Shopify’s password form; email signup uses Shopify’s customer form.
Cart behavior
The cart displays Shopify’s actual line prices, discounts, selling plans, unit prices and totals. Customers can update quantities, remove lines, undo a removal and add a note.
If stock allows only part of a request, the theme checks the server cart and explains the actual amount added. If a connection is interrupted, the theme checks the cart before allowing another add request. Customers can use the cart link to review the server-rendered result. If only part of a removed line can be restored, the remaining restore action shows the quantity still missing.
Browsing without JavaScript
Navigation, native variant selection, product submission, search, filters, sorting and cart updates use regular links and forms. Product images remain available as a list. Uploaded videos use native controls; external videos provide ordinary links. Interactive 3D viewing and drawers require JavaScript. The gift card code remains available without its generated QR image or print button.
Languages and markets
Configure markets, countries, currencies and languages in Shopify first. The theme’s localization forms display the options available to the current customer. A single available option can appear as text rather than an interactive selector.
Theme interface text can be changed in Shopify’s theme language editor. Product and editorial translations are separate store content. Translate the full storefront before advertising another language.
Update the theme
Duplicate your theme before an update or a code customization. Add the new version to the theme library, review migrated settings and test your key templates. Keep a record of custom code and app integrations, which may need separate review. Publish the updated copy after checking your catalog and cart.
Frequently asked questions
Why does my store look different from the demonstration?
Select your own images, collections, products, menus and articles in the editor. Shopify store resources and demo photography are not included in the theme ZIP. Start with the preset’s section arrangement and replace the usage guidance with your content.
Why are color or size filters missing?
Check the available filters in Shopify’s search configuration and make sure the relevant product options exist in the current collection. The theme cannot create filter data from option names that are not in the catalog.
Why does the same size guide appear on several products?
A guide selected directly in the product option block overrides the product metafield. Clear that override, then check each product’s Page reference.
Why is a product absent from a wardrobe edit?
Select a valid product in the corresponding block and check that it is published to the Online Store. A sold-out product can remain visible, with its purchase action unavailable.
Why is there no pickup, subscription or accelerated checkout option?
Check the corresponding store configuration, product data, location stock and Shopify eligibility. Those services are managed in Shopify and are not activated by installing a theme.
Can I change the theme code?
Yes. Duplicate the theme first and keep a record of your changes. Theme bug support and custom development are different services. Ask a Shopify developer to review a customization if you are unsure about its effect on updates or apps.
